Operations and Supply Chain Disruption
COVID-19 is giving the world an unwanted crash course in supply chain management. Before the pandemic, supply chain professionals quietly and competently went about their business. Their work, largely unnoticed by the general public, has resulted in the creation of global supply chains that provide consumers unprecedented access to low cost, high-quality products from markets around the world.
However, we are about to see what happens when hyper-efficient, lean supply chains built on the premises of predictable demand, high supplier fill rates, consistent manufacturing production rates, and unconstrained transportation capacity are all challenged.
JBF Consulting wishes that you and your loved ones remain safe and healthy in these unsettling times. This article from PWC provides pointers to help with that on what to do in these times.

10 Ways to Lower Diesel Fuel Expenses for Trucking Companies
Commentary by Mike Mulqueen
A recent Freightwaves article caught our attention: “Top 10 ways to lower diesel fuel expenses for trucking companies” As noted in the article, driver behavior seems to be the biggest factor in fuel usage. That said, I am somewhat skeptical about the use of speed governors, as they increase the number of truck/car interactions, which correlate to higher accident rates.
I would also love to get FreightWave’s perspective on fuel hedging as a risk mitigation approach. Given FreightWaves seems to be leading the charge in Freight Futures, perhaps using derivative instruments to reduct a shipper’s exposure to fuel volatility would be an interesting next step?
